Rules and Regulations
- I.J.Paderewski's Academy Foundation together with I.J.Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań are the organisers of The 2nd International Piano Competition Halina Czerny-Stefańska in Memoriam. The Competition will be held from 16th to 23rd September 2011.
- All the auditions will be held in Aula Nova of I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, 87 Św. Marcin Street, Poland, and will be open to the public.
- The Competition is open to pianists of all nationalities born after January 1, 1981.
- The candidates can ONLY apply on-line. The electronic application is available at this website.
All applications must arrive no later than 31 July 2011
The application must be mailed along with:
- a photocopy of ID or appropriate pages from the passport,
- black-and-white photograph of the candidate’s face, (jpg. file, 300dpi)
- a photocopy of entrance fee receipt.

- All applicants will be informed about their acceptance not later than 15 August 2011. Candidates not admitted to the Competition will be refunded their entry fee, minus bank transfer costs.
- All the applicants are given 15 minutes to rehearse before 1st stage. The possibility of free access to other pianos in the Academy of Music during the Competition is provided for all participants.
- The order of appearance will be determined by random drawing during the inauguration meeting and will be binding upon all competitors for the duration of the Competition. In justified cases participant can obtain permission to postpone his/her performance beyond formerly established order. The new order resulting from these circumstances will officially replace the previous one.
- All the additional expenses, such as travel or accommodation costs during the Competition, are the sole responsibility of the competitors.
At a candidate’s request, the Competition Office can book a place in the Academy’s students’ hostel (40 PLN/person/night). Please note that there is a limited number of vacant rooms available – a place can be guaranteed only for 30 participants. It will be dependent on the date of an application’s arrival. All candidates who are interested in this offer are asked for the mail contact. - Jury will be composed of internationally recognized pianists, critics and conductors.
- Members of the jury are formally obliged to abide by the rules and regulations of the Competition. All the points obtained by each competitor will be public. All decisions of the judges will be final and beyond appeal.
- The board of the Competition reserves the right for visual and sound recordings of all Competition performances. All performances will be public. Participants of the Competition cede to the Organizers all copyrights for recordings and radio and television direct or delayed broadcast made during the Competition (including the laureates’ concert).
- All the winners are obliged to perform at the laureates’ concert gratuitously. Program of the laureates’ concert will be established by the chairman of the jury in consultation with the performers.
- Any uncertainties regarding the Rules and Regulations will be resolved on the basis of the Polish version. All decisions concerning organization matters will be made by the President of the Competition.
- Applications received by the organizers will be automatically recognized as formal acceptance of the rules and regulations.
Repertoire
All compositions must be published and performed by heart.
First stage:
- J.S. Bach: one prelude and fugue from WTC
- F. Chopin: one of the following etudes:
Op. 10 No. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12
Op. 25 No. 4, 6, 8, 10, 11 - One virtuoso etude by one of the following composers:
F. Liszt
S. Rachmaninov
A. Scriabin
C. Debussy
W. Lutosławski
I. Stravinsky
G. Ligeti
- One piece of the competitor's choice (max. 10 min.).
The Etudes should be played in sequence.
The entire performance should not exceed 25 minutes.
Semifinal:
- One important work of the competitor's choice (classicistic or romantic)
- One or more compositions , different in terms style and epoque from the one mentioned in Point 1
The entire performance should last between 30-40 minutes.
Finale:
The free choice recital including one of the Nocturnes by F. Chopin:

- Op. 15 No. 2
- Op. 27 No. 1

The entire performance should last between 40-50 minutes.
